Recent Past
I feel like so many contemporary comics already feel.. lost or undervalued when viewed in the context of a dashboard. Wish that wasn’t the case.
That’s why I’d like to revisit some of the webseries and shorts I’ve found influential from the last few years. Queuing them up from the beginning. Hopefully providing a secondary chance to get into and think about a strip/work.
Open to all suggestions.
Sonatina #2: Submissions
Pleased to relate that the 2nd issue of Sonatina is underway. A small (great) selection of artists are set to contribute but I’d like to open the offer up to everyone.
The issue will be divided into two sections. Format for either:
8.5”x11” or 5.5”x8.5”
~2-4 pages,
grayscale or color,
300 dpi,
.tiff
Realistically there’s only room for 2-3 submissions, so get in contact before you start drawing. I wouldn’t want anyone to feel like they’ve wasted their time. If your comic can’t be published, at the very least I’ll promise to post your work in this space {Tumblr} and give it some
serious thought and feedback.
There’s no theme, content, or style restrictions. I’ve basically asked the contributors for two things: a work that feels invested and personally substantial “in some way”, and a risk. Not necessarily well-drawn or densely drawn. I feel like one of the points of printing a book is to take the time to engage with the physical format and to.. maybe, slow down. Do something inspired.
Caught up!
Finished packaging all outstanding orders last night! Yay. First time I’ve been completely caught up since day one. Can finally start focusing on posts, reviews, etc.
Also, getting ready to start a comics interview series? Pretty pumped about that. Actually, really excited! Like, it’s going to be interviews with artists about comics, in the form of comics. If that makes sense? Responding within the medium. And even in this initial stage it’s been interesting. I feel like the process has the potential to be very… revealing. Or spark some kind of reevaluation of a process that’s become very methodical? Or internal. At least that’s how I’m seeing it so far.
